My Hero

The 12 Days of Magic book blitz for the YA Paranormal series, Spellbound, by Nikki Jefford

Spellbound Book 1: Entangled - February 20th 2012
Two months after dying, seventeen-year-old witch Graylee Perez wakes up in her twin sister Charlene’s body.

Until Gray finds a way back inside her own body, she’s stuck being Charlene every twenty-hour hours. Her sister has left precise instructions on how Gray should dress and behave. Looking like a prep isn’t half as bad as hanging out with Charlene’s snotty friends and gropey boyfriend.

The “normals” of McKinley High might be quick to write her behavior off as post-traumatic stress, but warlock Raj McKenna is the only person who suspects Gray has returned from the dead.

Now Gray has to solve the mystery of her death and resurrection and disentangle herself from Charlene’s body before she disappears for good.

Spellbound Book 2: Duplicity - March 20th 2012
If Graylee Perez thought sharing a body with her twin sister was bad, dealing with a duplicate of herself is two times worse. Gray the second doesn’t seem to get that Lee’s boyfriend, Raj McKenna, is off limits. Then there’s the problem of Adrian Montez. He expects one of the Grays to be his.

Nearly a year later, the council is onto them for past misdeeds; Lee, along with the rest of the coven, has lost control of her powers; and Gray is being stalked by what looks like the Grim Reaper.

If they work together, they may stand a chance of setting things right and making it out alive.

Spellbound Book 3: Enchantment - April 2013
In the third and final installment of the Spellbound series, Graylee Perez (the duplicate), goes to Spain for a summer of escape. There she meets new friends and comes face to face with her old adversary, Adrian Montez.

When Gray tries to setup a spell that will banish Adrian from her life, she inadvertently falls under a love spell instead.

Charlene returns, having hijacked a new body, for one final battle between the twins.

Fire and Ice Blog tour!

I'm excited to be part of the Fire and Ice Tour! This book looks amazing! After reading more about it, it has moved to the top of my MUST READ NOW pile!

Synopsis:
Is love stronger than race?

The world is changeing as we know it, the human race is dwindling, but so are the angels. In order to preserve their bloodlines they have bred with humans, creating a new race called Nephilim. But there is one race that is more endangered than humans or Seraphim, Archangels.
As most people believe the Archangels have become extinct, rumours surface of a Legend; that a baby was born out of flame, the offspring of an archangel.

Dyston Blackbell is tasked to find and protect this child. He sends her strange dreams in hope that she will find him. When he discovers that she has enrolled at his family’s angel academy in Melbourne, he will do anything to protect Scarlett. But when he finds himself falling for her the Heavenly realm rejects him.

But 21-year-old Scarlett Porter realises that being half Archangel has some advantages. She has developed a unique trait, one that marks her as an Archangel. Will she keep it to herself or use it to fight back?

When an old enemy resurfaces, The Lucifites, Scarlett discovers that Dyston’s older brother Lakyn is at the helm of their sinister plans; to destroy the Nephilim race or use Scarlett for their own selfish purposes when they find out who she really is.

And when Lakyn discovers that Scarlett had only seduced him to rescue Dyston from his prison in the Realm of Light, it sends him on a journey of self-discovery and destruction. One that sees him venturing farther off course than his father would like. Will he choose a new life of love or his old life of darkness?

With growing numbers counting on her, not just for their freedom, but for their very lives, two different boys vying for her heart, and trouble brewing from within the camp itself, can Kaleigh find a way to step up and become the leader everyone is counting on her to be, or will even the most carefully laid plans come crashing down around her?

For What it's Worth Tour

Tour Schedule

For What It's Worth by Karey White

Twenty-four year-old, Abby Benson has dreams of owning her own wedding cake shop. An inheritance from her aunt gives her the ability to make those dreams come true. She hires Dane, a handsome contractor, to help her get the bakery up and running and soon they’re moving toward their own happy ending.

Unsure what to charge for her cakes, Abby has a crazy idea to let the customer decide what they think their cake is worth. This plan has its ups and downs, but the novelty of the idea makes her a local celebrity. When she is interviewed on television about the unusual idea, business booms and Abby has cake adventures she never dreamed possible. But as her fame grows, Abby is swept up in a whirlwind that threatens everything she values. With the challenges that face her, will she be able to determine what is worth the most?

Praise for For What It's Worth

Reading Karey White’s books, like eating chocolate cake, is always satisfying and brings a smile to my face. For What It’s Worth is light, romantic, and delicious. It’s a great pleasure read. Sit down and get lost in the charming world of wedding cakes and love. As an added bonus, each chapter  starts with a recipe, so it’s a novel and cookbook all in one. A fun read!
—Teri Harman, KSL columnist, Studio 5 contributor, and author of Blood Moon, available June 22, 2013

I just loved the book – loved it. Hated putting it down and hated finishing it. Karey White is my new Maeve Binchy, her writing as warm as the bakery her novel is set in. For What It’s Worth surprised me, made me smile, say “no” out loud in a public place. I love when a character feels like my sister. I didn’t want to finish it, so now I may try the recipes that began every chapter.
—Amanda Dickson, author and radio personality

This book oozes charm, romance, and mouth-watering recipes. If you want to escape reality and curl up with a darling story, For What It’s Worth is the perfect fit. Thank you, Karey White!
—Rachael Anderson, author

This is a book worth every penny of the price. In the business of baking wedding cakes, every detail must be perfection, but this story remembers that real life is oh-so-messy. White’s clear and honest writing left me hungry for good food, a close family, and a little romance. A beautiful marriage of food, family, and faith.

Guest Post from Karey White

There are a few things that I think are worth spending a little extra on. Here's my list of worthwhile splurges.

Rocky Road Ice Cream - Don't go for the cheap kind with the marshmallow ribbon. Go for good chocolate ice cream loaded with real marshmallows and almonds. Tillamook is the best, in my opinion.

Bare Minerals makeup - I first tried this brand about a dozen years ago and I'll never go back to the liquid foundation.

Chocolate - Cheap chocolate is not good. In fact, I believe no chocolate is better than cheap chocolate. Go for the gusto and get the best. I like all things See's and if you can't get to a See's, you can always go for Lindor. Yum.

Fresh green beans and fresh asparagus - In a time of crisis, I'd eat canned green beans and canned asparagus, but it would simply be for survival. Fresh is definitely superior.

Shoes - Feet take a lot of abuse and deserve to be rewarded with good shoes.

Books - A good book is always worth the money. I'm going to go out on a limb and say For What It's Worth is definitely worth buying!

All I Want! LOVED this anthology!!

Tour Schedule

My review

I LOVED this anthology! It inspired me to gather a couple of my writer friends together to write one of our own. You know a book is good when it inspires you. Each story, although short, felt complete, not always true with a short story. I easily invested in the characters, could relate to their situations, and cared about what happened to them.

Pretty Near Perfect: This is my first, but not my last novel by Jolene Perry. I loved this story. The writing was smart, fun, and entertaining. The story, for me, had just a taste of the movie Dan in Real Life, one of my all-time favorite movies. Although this is entirely different story, it still had the Dan charm I joy.

Six Days of Christmas: Great fun story. Kaylee Baldwin's story quickly drew me in also and had me rooting for Natalie. It was fun and very enjoyable. Watching Natalie grow, change and become aware of the feelings deep inside her made for a tender read. Kodos Kaylee!

Twist of Fate:
I have read a couple books by Rachael Anderson before. I enjoy her style of writing, her rich humor, her tender words, and this story was no different. I LOVED Ty. The story was fresh and fun. I enjoyed the playful banter between the characters. I even enjoyed "the mother" :}} Great job-again-Rachael.

Over all I'd give All I Want five Christmas smiley faces . The book is a steal at just $2.99, a true bargain in these tough times!
Hurry and buy a copy before they sell out...;}}}  Okay, it's an eBook and they won't sell out, but hurry anyway! You won't regret it.

ALL I WANT

THREE STORIES. THREE COUPLES. ONE HOLIDAY.

Pretty Near Perfect

by Jolene Perry

The last thing Norah needs is to be attracted to anyone – especially in her deceased fiancé's parents' home. Collin’s starting a new career, and has no business getting involved – especially while staying with his roommate’s family, who very kindly offered to take him in for the holidays. Unfortunately, you just don’t always pick the most convenient time and place to fall for someone.

Six Days of Christmas
by Kaylee Baldwin

When Natalie goes home with her best friend for Christmas, she expects plenty of quiet time to work on a winning ad so she can turn her dream internship into her dream job. Instead, she gets time-consuming Christmas festivities, a house full of children, and Jimmy, her best friend’s brother - someone who makes her question everything she’s always thought she wanted.

Twist of Fate
by Rachael Anderson

When a postcard meant for Kenzie winds up in Ty's mailbox, Ty's faced with a decision. Should he tell her that her fiancé is breaking up with her and let it ruin her favorite holiday, or should he do what he’s wanted to do since he met her - make a move and hope that he can win her over before she discovers there won’t be a wedding after all.

Author Jolene Perry

Jolene Perry is an enigmatic figure. She is most often seen behind her laptop, staring at the words flying onto the screen with reckless abandon.

She survived growing up in rural Alaska, driving like a lunatic, and her husband’s careers in the military, as a perpetual student, and an Alaska State Prosecutor. She also survived as a middle school math teacher using her degree of Political Science and French.

One day Jolene was playing her guitar (probably some-thing juvenile for her kids) when she wondered what it would be like to write a song for a rockstar, and her first book was born. (that book is shelved)

She now lives a very glamorous life as a stay at home mom, elbow deep in dirty dishes and peanut butter sandwiches. She doesn’t even attempt to keep up with the laundry because non-writing time is precious, and her family is sorta awesome.

Rachael Anderson is the author of four contemporary romances: Divinely Designed, Luck of the Draw, Minor Adjustments, and The Reluctant Bachelorette. She's the mother of four, can't sing, doesn't dance, and despises tragedies. But she recently figured out how yeast works and can now make homemade bread, which she is really good at eating.

Anyway, I’d like to thank everyone who has read my work from the bottom of my heart, especially Unlovable, my first novel with all its rookie mistakes). Mere words can’t express my appreciation.
I’m especially grateful for those who took the time to not only read it, but review it also. Reviews are so important to authors. and they mean the difference between great sales and no sales. For that alone I can’t thank you enough.
For those who've told their friends/ family about my work, I want to thank you also. This past year and a half has been a wonderful, exciting journey I could never have imagined. Unlovable is now being made into a movie, and it is being translated and published by Maxim Publisher in Hungary, of all places. This is due in large part to you and your response to my work.
Souls in Peril, my latest novel, is now on its way up the charts, and for that I thank you also.

New novel by Shawn Kirsten Maravel

Blurb: Evangeline has already lost everything once. She’s no stranger to reassembling the shambles of her life and trying to make peace with the outcome of the greatest tragedy that she’s ever had to face. But when a life of selling antiques in the Lower East Side proves to be less than enough to maintain her meager lifestyle, she turns to the pages of her thriller novels for distraction.

When a mysterious new tenant moves into the apartment above hers, she indulges her desire for danger and adventure by trying to figure out exactly who the stranger in 6C is. In time, the intrigue about a neighbor she has yet to actually see, isn’t enough to keep her distracted from the threat of having to close down her shop and start from scratch for the second time. Just as she tries to refocus her attention to breathing life back into her business, she meets the handsome stranger for the first time and she loses sight of everything else.

Soon her life takes on the exciting appeal of her novels and she can’t seem to get enough. But as she draws closer to the mystery tenant, she discovers that the danger is real and her life is left in the hands of a dangerous killer.

I'm Hungary, are you? ;}}

Exciting news!! As you know, I Self-Published Unlovable last year. Last month I was contacted by a publisher who wants to Traditionally Publish it in . . . Hungary. I know, of all the places in the world, Hungary NEVER crossed my mind as to a place to  publish Unlovable!
(Umm, I hate to admit this, but I had to Google Hungary because I wasn't exactly sure where it was.)
Anyway, they are going to translated it into Hungarian, (again, never imagined that for my novel) and publish it in their country! Very exciting.  It took a while to work out the details. No offense Trad Pub peeps, but you guys are slow.

Not sure when it will be available (see above comment about speed). They said 18 months -yeah, okay, I totally believe that,  but I am pretty excited, nevertheless.

So a big thank you for all your support of Unlovable. I really can't say that enough! I appreciate your looking past its flaws and falling in love with the story. Stay-tuned for a very special thank you coming next week;}}}

Book Release of Spinster's Folly

Marie Owen yearns for a loving husband, but Colorado Territory is long on rough characters and short on fitting suitors, so a future of spinsterhood seems more likely than wedded bliss. Her best friend says cowboy Bill Henry is a likely candidate, but Marie knows her class-conscious father would not allow such a pairing. When she challenges her father to find her a suitable husband before she becomes a spinster, he arranges a match with a neighbor's son. Then Marie discovers Tom Morgan would be an unloving, abusive mate and his mother holds a grudge against the Owen family. Marie's mounting despair at the prospect of being trapped in such a dismal marriage drives her into the arms of a sweet-talking predator, landing her in unimaginable dangers. This fourth book in the Owen Family Saga is infused with potent heart and intense grit.

Marsha Ward is an award-winning poet, writer and editor whose published work includes four novels in The Owen Family Saga: The Man from Shenandoah, Ride to Raton, Trail of Storms, and Spinster’s Folly; and over 900 articles, columns, poems and short stories. Proofreading is a dying art, wouldn't you say?

Before I was a novelist, I worked in several other branches of the writing industry, including as a freelance content and copy editor, reporter and editor for several different newspapers, and editor of a couple of writers’ magazines. I still freelance on occasion, and retain a healthy regard for correct usage of the English language. In fact, I keep a Curmudgeon in the basement, and occasionally I’ll let him out to rant about that subject.

Some days I get way too much silly pass-along email, but one I got recently seemed to hit the spot for writers. These are supposedly actual headlines. I contemplated letting The Curmudgeon out to address the situation, but thought better of it since I’m so busy. Curtailing his rages takes a lot of energy and muscle.

Judging from these headlines, there is still a need to proofread very carefully! The first person statements below are by that ubiquitous fellow, Anonymous, not The Curmudgeon.

This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day. Too funny.

5 stars!

5 stars for Souls in Peril    From the Bookcoverjustice Blog!
Excerpt:: About two weeks ago, I took part in the BookSparksPR Anti-Bullying Campaign. In my post I talked about what bullying has meant to my family, especially my daughter. When I sat down to read Souls in Peril, I wasn't prepared for what I would find between the covers. This is an emotional, gut-wrenching read...

I can't recommend this book enough. Not just for kids either, adults too. Everyone should take some time to read Max and JD's story and hopefully a difference will be made....
Thank you so much!!

Touching Souls in Peril review!

Touching Souls in Peril review.  Thank you so much your your amazing words, Beckie!! (Caution: Spoiler alert!)  Here is an unspoiler section of the 5 star review if you don't like spoilers;}}

To feel and experience what JD/Max had to deal with and fight up against. The story is so deep and there are so much more that happens than what I wrote above. Souls in Peril touched my heart more than any book ever has. I love a book that once done reading it you feel like you can walk away lighter and uplifted. Sherry writes this story for both a bully and those who are bullied can find find hope or see the errors of their wrong ways. The story truly spoke to me and touched my soul. In The beginning of the book I was hooked, and left breathless. In the end I was blown away and left in tears. One of the many wonderful things I loved about Souls in Peril is Sherry's ability to have such an expressive writing style. The reader can sense and feel every raw emotion good or bad during the book. She made me feel like I was right there in the book living through JD.

I cannot recommend this book enough to everyone. Trust me, read it and tell me you did not shed a tear or learn something about yourself. Being bullied myself most of my life during school was so very hard for me, some days I just wanted to give up. I just wish I would have had THIS book for me to read when I too was a Soul in Peril. Yes, I know this is one of my longest reviews, and if you have read it up to now then give yourself a gold star. All kidding aside please, please, please read this beautiful book. I guarantee you'll not regret it.
