Loving Marigold excerpt

Excerpt #1 (Back in high school)
Marigold
“You actually believed Jack liked you, didn’t you?” Felecia asked, flicking a strand of my frizzy hair.

I snapped my head up and glared into the girl’s watery gray eyes. “Is that why you lied and told him I had a boyfriend and couldn’t come to the party?” At least, I hoped that was what happened, because if Jack really didn’t care about me . . . I shivered at the thought.
“We know you’ve put a spell on him, witch. He wanders the halls searching for you between classes, and Fiona caught him doodling your name on his notebook,” Felecia bit out between her clamped teeth. “He’s clearly bewitched.”
“So you’re protecting him from me then?” I asked, stepping toward the twins.
“That’s right.” Fiona offered up a nasty sneer. “I saw him first, and since I can’t compete against your black magic voodoo, I invented a boyfriend for you. Now Jack thinks you’ve been playing both ends.”
I moved even closer as they each crept back. “Wh-what does it matter, witch?” Felicia said, her hands shaking. “He’s leaving in the morning for Port Fare. You would have lost him anyway.”

I stopped. They had a point. What did it matter? The boy I loved was leaving. The only person ever to have defended me against the witch taunts. I turned for the door, but stopped when I heard the twins’ snide laughter. It burned hot in my stomach. Before clearing the door, I casually flipped my hair over my shoulder, or at least I hoped it looked that way to my classmates. Only the gesture meant so much more. Through my strands of hair, I wiggled my index finger at the Farious twins. A stink rose from the girls so vile people actually tripped over themselves in an effort to escape. When the unmistakable noises started, laughter filled the room and fingers pointed at the girls who would forevermore be known as the Fartious twins.

Excerpt #2 (Nine years later)
Jack

Since coming back I’d only seen her a few times, the first being about two months ago. She was crossing the road bringing her herbs and oils to the tourist shop next to the station to sell. My heart flipped over in my chest. She looked good. Better than good. Beautiful. Her skinny, stick-like body had filled out nicely with its womanly curves. She’d changed the way she wore her hair. In high school she usually had frizzy, untamed curls or she’d keep it tethered in a fluff-ball of a ponytail. Now it hung in long soft curls that made me want to reach out and touch each and every one. I watched her cross to the shop and disappear inside the station. I just stood there like a dummy without saying a single word.

Cover Reveal!!

Unlovable is now an audiobook!! If you click here you can get the audiobook for free with a 30 day free trial of Audible on Amazon!! You can't beat free!!
Along with the release of the audiobook, I've redesigned the covers of the first two books in the Port Fare series. ( I'm designing covers now. Click here and check them out!) To celebrate the new look, I am giving away paperback copies of the entire series.
Here is the new cover for Unlovable. I didn't change it too much because I really loved the original one. (Thank you, Paul Beeley), but another author came out with almost the exact same cover, including the coloring :'(
I kept the girl on the swing because she fits Maggie's story perfectly, though I did add flowers to the swing. The rest has been changed completely. I love the blues and pinks, and I've always wanted a moon on the cover. I also added Maggie's trailer in the background!

Here is the eBook cover: (The book sites ~ Amazon, iTunes, etc...may not have updated the listing yet.)
And this is the Paperback
This is the audio book cover.

This is the new cover for Unbelievable! It's a real change. I feel this cover fits the story so much better. Lilah feels trapped by her domineering father and his demands. She desperately wants to break free...can't tell you anymore or I'll spoil the story ;) I feel this new cover portrays Lilah and what she is going through in a much stronger way, and it seems to fit in better with the other covers. While I loved the old cover, and had a huge say in its design, (Thank you again, Paul) it seemed out of place with book one & three's covers. This one holds the same "feel," if you will.
Here is the Ebook cover:
And this is the paperback
Unbearable's cover didn't really change, only the back was updated.

So, what do you think??

Sneak peek you say??

Here's a snippet from the first chapter. Unbearable is still with my editor so please excuse any mistakes! Enjoy!!

Chapter 1
Booker
“Pink, Lilah?” I snatched the silky dress from her hands, my mouth pinched tight as my shoulders drooped in feigned disappointment. “You know green’s my favorite color.”
“Sorry, Crookshanks,” Lilah smiled sweetly. She was now in on the cat jokes that Magpie, Seth’s wife, loved so well. Why they couldn’t use my given nickname of Booker amused me more than it should. “The thrift store was all out of green chiffon. You’re stuck with pink.” She waved and shut the bathroom door.
I fisted the bright, nineteen-eighties looking prom dress in my hand and groaned. “Okay, buddy. Man up and put on the dress.” I glanced into the oval mirror above the sink, and pointed at my reflection. “You made the deal. Now it’s time to pay.”
Lilah exploded on Port Fare in June to avenge her brothers’ deaths. Her three drug dealing brothers. Her sicko father tricked her into thinking my best friend Seth and I were responsible. Of course, technically, we were. Seth and I were undercover agents for the MET, the Mobile Enforcement Team, a division of the DEA, at the time, and they were part of our caseload.
I never doubted that Lilah was in on her father’s plan to kill all of us, but she insisted she was merely an innocent pawn in the scheme. After I did my best to make her life miserable, she struck a deal with me that if she were telling the truth, I’d have to apologize to our group of friends, and hand wax her car . . . in a dress. Well, not only was I wrong, she went and married my good friend Cole not too long after. Now I stood in their bathroom, cowering over the gaudy dress in my hand, about to keep my word. I always kept my word.
I stripped off my t-shirt and jeans, setting them on the counter as I wrangled my way into the dress’s many layers. The thing hung on me like a tent. I tugged the tag from the collar forward and glanced at the size.
“3X. Really?” I yelled through the door. I heard both Lilah and Magpie laughing.
I turned back to the mirror, running my fingers through my dark brown hair, smoothing it back into place. I was right, the color washed out my face. And the fact I even knew that was disturbing on so many levels. Fingering the skinny shoulder straps, I remembered Maggie and Seth in their bulk sweaters and Cole and Lilah wrapped in thick wool jackets. “I’m gonna freeze.” Only mid-October and the temperature had already dipped into the thirties. Welcome to upstate New York. I had no one to blame but myself for the rotten timing. If I hadn’t been so busy setting up my office, I’d have waxed the car sooner, but today was the first Saturday I had any free time since quitting the MET.
Well, at least the skinny shoulder straps showcased my biceps. I’d like to say that it was my love of the gym that did that…but sadly it was more my lackluster love life. What else was I supposed to do with my spare time?
“Enough with the pity party, Gatto. You chose to live a monk-like existence.”
